World Cleanup Day 20. September 2025
On September 20, 2025, the World Cleanup Day will once again take place – the world’s largest bottom-up civic movement to tackle environmental pollution.
This significant day of action, now officially listed in the United Nations calendar, mobilizes millions of people across more than 190 countries. Together, they work to free streets, parks, beaches, forests, rivers, riverbanks, and oceans from carelessly discarded waste.
In 2024, more than 22 million people worldwide joined the “WCD,” sending a powerful signal for a cleaner, healthier, and waste-free environment through their cleanup activities.
In Germany, over 600,000 participants in more than 2,400 cities and municipalities took part in around 10,000 cleanups. The website www.worldcleanupday.de, operated by the non-profit association Let’s Do It! Germany e.V. (founded in 2018), enables municipalities, schools, companies, associations, initiatives, and private individuals to register their cleanups and access guidance on safe and effective implementation.
Holger Holland, initiator of World Cleanup Day in Germany, emphasizes:
“Our goal goes beyond the mere removal of waste from public spaces and waterways, where municipal and private companies in Germany have long done good work. We want to raise awareness of the extent to which we burden our environment through pollution and destruction.”
Together, we are pursuing the ambitious aim of mobilizing at least 5 percent of the population to take part in World Cleanup Day. Through this commitment, we strive to sensitize decision-makers, businesses, and policymakers to the urgency of the problem – while at the same time sending a strong signal for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Our Vision
We want to live in a clean, healthy, and plastic waste–free world.
We want to create global awareness for the sustainable use of our resources.
We want education and information about recycling and the circular economy to be available to all people, free of charge, anytime and anywhere.
We want to bring together stakeholders from politics, production, distribution, waste management, science, and civil society – and work jointly to strengthen a truly sustainable circular economy worldwide.
